7 EXCUSES holding you back from stepping into your Creative Power | Sam Horton

creativity & well-being podcast summaries spiritual transformation Jun 02, 2025

There’s a quiet whisper inside you. Maybe you’ve heard it when your hands hover over your journal. When you're tidying your space. Admiring someone else’s artwork. Or daydreaming about a life that feels more aligned, more expressive, more... you.

That whisper is your soul calling you back to your creativity.

But just as you begin to listen, the excuses creep in. Not with a roar, but with a soft, persistent hum, stories you’ve heard before. Stories that convince you now’s not the time, or worse, that creativity simply isn’t meant for you.

Here’s the truth: your excuses are not failures. They’re symptoms of deeper stories and patterns. And with awareness, compassion, and the right support, they can be released, making space for the creative power that’s always lived within you.

Podcast Summary

Let’s explore the 7 most common excuses keeping soulful women stuck and disconnected from their creativity:

1. Inherited Beliefs About Creativity and Talent

You were told to be practical. That art doesn’t pay the bills. That creativity is only for the gifted or the eccentric. Over time, these beliefs shaped how you saw yourself. But creativity isn’t a luxury or a rare gift, it’s your soul’s native language. You don’t need to earn the right to create. You only need to listen inward.

2. Imposter Syndrome

“Who am I to do this?” “I’m not creative enough.” “Others do it better.” Sound familiar? These thoughts hit hardest when we begin something new or deeply personal. But creativity isn’t about proving anything,  it’s about remembering who you are. Your lived experiences and inner world are your superpowers.

3. Comparison and Perfection Paralysis

Scrolling social media can leave you feeling like your ideas are too messy, too small, too late. But creativity is not about perfection. It’s about presence, honesty, and heart. Your vulnerability and raw beginnings are sacred. They’re where your truest magic lives.

4. Procrastination Disguised as Protection

You’ve got the journal, the art supplies, the course. But the start never seems to happen. This isn’t laziness, it’s often self-protection. Creativity asks you to be vulnerable. To feel. To be real. And that can be scary. But when nurtured in safety and compassion, resistance softens and your true self can emerge.

5. Lack of Support and a Nourishing Framework

Without guidance or structure, your creative desires can drift. We were never taught to tend to our creativity with devotion. But when you have a framework that honours your rhythm and soul, not rigid rules but a sacred rhythm, creativity blooms.

6. No Clear Vision or Commitment

You want to feel more creative, but without a deeper “why” and a simple, loving “how,” the desire remains a fantasy. A soulful intention and gentle goals anchor your practice and give you something beautiful to return to, especially when life gets messy.

7. Fear of Being Seen or Changed

Creativity will change you. It will shift your identity, invite growth, and expand your truth. And yes — that can feel terrifying. But it will never ask you to become someone you're not. Instead, it invites you home to the self you were always meant to be.

Creativity as a Sacred Return

When you gently bring awareness to these stories and stop letting them run the show, you begin to create, not just art, but a life that reflects your truth.

You reclaim abandoned parts of yourself. You soften into your power. You remember what it means to be whole.

And that’s what I’m here to support you with. Through soul-led creative exploration, spiritual tools, and compassionate mentorship, we’ll release what’s no longer serving you and gently build a creative practice that feels like home.

Because your soul isn’t whispering by accident, it’s calling you into your next chapter.

Reflection Question:
Which of these excuses has been quietly holding you back, and what might shift if you stopped believing it?

Take care,
