Poetry Minisode - "Truth's Hollow" | Sam Horton

podcast summaries poetry minisode Oct 20, 2025

There is a particular unease that comes when we silence what we know to be true. It doesn’t disappear just because we push it aside. Instead, it lingers quietly in the body — a hollow feeling that reminds us we’re out of alignment with ourselves.

This is the inspiration behind my poem, Truth’s Hollow. It explores the weight of suppressed truth and the brave, tender work of listening to the soul’s voice even when it feels difficult.

The Poem: Truth’s Hollow

There is a hollow feeling,
That makes me feel unwell.
It wanders aimlessly and empty,
kept quiet behind its veil.

A quiet, distant knowing,
pushed out of sight today,
suppressed inside my heartbeat,
chanting endlessly, kept at bay.

It’s always there, this feeling,
when my soul knows it’s betrayed,
from the wanton eerie chatter,
that courses through my veins.

I only know one remedy,
and this I know for sure,
it’s the honest, tender bravery,
of my soul’s true voice, trusting and pure.

To put faith in one’s soul truth,
is not an easy feat,
it requires bold and brazen,
true, trusting swords of honour, to defeat.

What This Poem Speaks To

This poem is a reflection on the cost of ignoring our truth. That “hollow feeling” is familiar to so many of us — the unease, the restlessness, the sense that something isn’t right when we hide behind silence or self-doubt.

But it’s also a reminder that there is a remedy. Reconnecting with truth takes courage, honesty, and integrity. It asks us to be bold enough to honour our soul’s voice, even when it feels vulnerable. When we take even a small step toward authentic expression, the hollow begins to fill with strength, clarity, and self-trust.

Reflection for You

After reading this poem, I invite you to pause for a moment of gentle inquiry:

Where in your life do you notice the hollow feeling of holding back your truth — and what would it look like to give your soul’s true voice a little more space today?
