Poetry Minisode - "Bloom of My Heart" | Sam Horton

Some poems arrive like a whisper, quiet but insistent. Bloom of My Heart came to me in one of those moments. It is a love letter to the wise centre within, a reminder that the heart blooms not only in perfect conditions but right in the middle of the weeds.

The poem speaks to the way the heart guides us through messy seasons, the times when we feel lost, weary, or unsure. It doesn’t demand perfection or performance. It simply asks us to listen. To return to trust. To remember that softness and strength can coexist.

When we feel unmoored or lost the heart becomes our compass. It teaches us to set loving boundaries that keep the “bugs” at bay, the distractions, overcommitments, and doubts that try to drain our energy. Its petals shimmer with moonlight, soothing and steadying the spirit. And at the centre are seeds of desire and dream, tiny sparks that remind us that even in rest, new life is forming.

Bloom of My Heart

My heart holds a magic,
that blossoms in the weeds,
its bloom is soft and gentle,
yet also wild and free.

It doesn’t ask for perfection,
its intelligent beyond my years,
it speaks to me in whispers
that soften my tender fears.

Whenever I lose my compass,
my heart paves the way,
if I return to it with trust,
it knows how to keep the bugs at bay.

Its petals shimmer moonlight,
that soothe and calm the day.

Its centre holds the seeds,
of desire, dreams and sparkle,
that transform my soul's soft voice,
into violent bolts of lightening,
that fire up the way.

A place to rest and nurture,
a place to safely fight,
for the meaning, love and service,
that is my soul’s birthright.

The Meaning Behind the Poem

This poem reflects the tension between softness and wildness. The heart is both sanctuary and spark, a place to rest and a place to rise. Sometimes we need to exhale, to be held, to do nothing but exist in the quiet beauty of being. And sometimes, that same heart calls us to stand up for what matters, to protect what we love, to follow through on our purpose.

At its core, Bloom of My Heart is about rightful belonging. Meaning, love, and service are not things we have to earn; they are our soul’s birthright. When we root ourselves in the wisdom of the heart, we remember that we are already worthy, already connected, already home.
